History of MALLAKHAMBA is the ancient traditional purely Indian Sport. It was originated in Maharashtra around 200 years ago. Guru Balambhattdada Deodhar is known as founder of Mallakhamb. Now it is popular in over 26 states in the country. From 1961 to 1976 Gymnastics Federation of India conducted the National Mallakhamb Championships along with Gymnastics. Even in All India Inter University Championships, Mallakhamb competitions are being conducted for men since 1968-69. Many Institutions in India have taken Mallakhamb abroad on various occasions, in the different International events.
Malla' means wrestling and 'khamb' translates to pole. Put-Together, Mallakhamb means wrestling on a pole. Mallakhamb is an ancient martial arts form intended as a training aid for wrestlers and ancient warriors. The practice of Mallakhamb incorporates anti-gravity fundamentals, laws of motion, and other vectors like force, balance, bounce, spring etc.and it demonstrates fundamental principles from high-intensity training to high-intensity interval training. MALLAKHAMBA or Mallakhamb is a traditional sport, originating from the Indian subcontinent, in which a gymnast performs aerial yoga or gymnastic postures using wrestling grips rope. Mallakhamb training may be recommended to improve speed of movement and vital capacity. The peak expiratory flow rate may contribute to enhance concentration and voluntary control of breathing. Our main aim is to take mallakhamb to the international platform and spread knowledge about it and teach its advantages and importance to everyone. (Note: Do Not practice Without Expert Supervision).
